Yes. Maryville University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In addition, a number of our online degrees hold subject-specific accreditation from bodies like the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Yes. We have several certificate options: bachelor’s and post-bachelor’s certificates in computer science and cybersecurity, post-master’s certificate options for our nursing programs, and graduate certificate option in project management.
Most online students start off with one class at a time. However, for our graduate business programs, students are able to pursue a full-time schedule by taking two three-credit classes at a time.
We recommend 10-15 hours of work per week per 3-credit, 8-week course. We also recommend that students budget some extra time during their first term as they work to get acclimated with starting a new program.
While all students are welcome and encouraged to visit our campus whenever they are in the St. Louis area, most programs do not have a campus visit requirement.
However, if you enroll in our EdD in Higher Education Leadership program, there are two on-campus residencies required. These three-day sessions take place during the summer. If you are unable to make it to these sessions in person, you may be able to utilize a remote live-stream option.
Yes. All graduates are invited and encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony, including online students. We would love to see you on stage at graduation.
No. Your degree will be identical to those earned on campus, and it will not mention that you completed the program online.
The average class size is 14 students. Class sizes are kept small to help ensure that instructors have time to respond to students in message, email, or other formats, even though classes themselves may be asynchronous.
You are able to take a step back from classes as needed. You can resume coursework with no re-application requirement as long as you return within a year.
Our online learning platform is intuitive and user-friendly. As long as you are able to use a word processor and operate an internet browser, you should be in great shape in terms of your computer skills. We also offer orientation sessions for our programs, so you can familiarize yourself with any new or specific processes and procedures prior to classes beginning.
No. For most of our degree programs, online students who are required to complete an experiential learning opportunity — such as an internship, clinical, or residency — are able to do so at an approved location. This means you should be able to fulfill your experiential requirements at a location convenient to you.

Yes. Coursework for all programs is 100% online. However, some programs have experiential components like internships (either required or optional) or clinicals. Our online doctorate in higher education leadership program does feature an on-campus weekend.
Class structures can vary from program to program. Your student support advisor can help walk you through your program’s format.
Absolutely. Courses will have milestones or work that needs to be completed each week, but it’s up to you when you want to log in and complete it during that week.
The Apple Distinguished School designation indicates that certain tech-focused programs at a college or university meet criteria around innovation, leadership, and academic excellence. Maryville first earned this title in 2016, and it has since been renewed in 2018-2021 and 2021-2024 — recognizing our Digital World program, which gives students the opportunity to personalize their education in an enhanced technological environment.

This depends on several factors, including current level of education, transfer credits, how many credit hours you elect to take at a time, and program length. Be sure to talk with your enrollment or student support advisor when you’re ready to start thinking about the right plan for you.
Most coursework can be completed on your own time, whenever your schedule allows. However, some exceptions may include exams, assignment due dates, coordinated group work, and more. For any required login times, students will typically be notified in advance by their instructor.

No. Maryville University does not require applicants to provide standardized placement test scores from the SAT, ACT, GMAT, or GRE.
No. There is currently no application fee to apply to any of Maryville’s online programs.
Yes. There are several ways students can receive financial assistance. For more information on financial aid, please visit our Financial Aid and Tuition page. Please note, international students are not eligible for federal financial aid.
Yes. You’ll have access to a personal enrollment advisor to assist in completing your file. You’ll also be able to get assistance from a student support advisor, who can help as you prepare to begin classes — and throughout your student journey to graduation.

Yes, you need all your official transcripts (including all military transcripts) for your application to be considered complete. However, transcripts needed may vary by degree level. Your enrollment advisor will be able to guide you through the process.
There are multiple start dates throughout the academic year. For your convenience, you can choose start dates during the spring, summer, and fall — whenever is convenient for you.
Each term has its own application deadline. Your enrollment advisor can provide more, as they are there to support you through the entire application process.
Yes, our graduate programs are open to international students. However, some programs have additional requirements for international students, such as language proficiency requirements. Your enrollment advisor will be able to guide you through those requirements during the admission process.
Note: Maryville’s online nursing programs require students with an international education background to have their BSN from a CCNE/ACEN accredited program for the MSN & BSN-DNP programs, and their MSN from a CCNE/ACEN accredited program for the Post-Master’s Certificate, DNP & DNP-NP programs.
